Recipe: Super Green St. Patricks Day Soup

I am posting this recipe for Super Green St. Patrick’s Day Soup a week early so you can get the needed ingredients and be ready on the 17th. Rob and I created this recipe from a combination of a few different ones and just made it up as we went along. We wanted it to be Super Green, super healthy, and super tasty. I think we have achieved our goal if you can judge that by how fast it disappeared from our fridge. I hope you enjoy this “green” recipe for St Patty’s.

Top 10 Super Foods

One consideration for good health is that of increasing the amount of nutrient rich food that we consume. If our diet is filled with high nutrient density foods like kale, collards, turnip greens or bok choy, then our body is satisfied, has less cravings and eats less. The weight loss implications of this are easy to understand because with high nutrient density foods, we are more fulfilled on less calories.

The following 10 super foods are based on Dr Joel Fuhrman’s research. The more of these you can put into your diet, the way they were brought to you (raw or lightly cooked), the better your health should be.

Top 10 Super Foods

There are actually 30 super foods in Dr Fuhrman’s list of nutrient dense foods but for the next 20 Super Foods, you’ll have to visit my other weight loss website.

Notice that there are no fruits, dairy products, meats, nuts or seeds in the top 10 foods, just dark green leafy vegetables. Shows you the powerful nutrient punch they provide.

Saving Water : Using Greywater

This is the fifth article in a 6 part series on Saving Water. See part 1 on measuring your tap water, part 2 on benefits of a water tank, part 3 on gutters and drains and part 4 on saving water around the house. Living in Sydney, Australia I’m acutely aware of the value of this precious resource.

When it comes to conserving water, this is the big one. As greywater comprises around three quarters of a household’s waste water, it’s well worth looking at. After all, saving water = saving money.

What is Greywater?

Garden hose
First, a definition.

The water you see around the house can generally be classified as one of three types –

White / fresh water : this is the clear water you drink.
Greywater / graywater : this water contains a small amount of dirt, and is water that has been previously used within the house. The water which leaves the washing machine, for example.
Blackwater : this is the waste water from the toilet.

Just remember the greywater = previously used part, and you’ll begin to see just how much of the stuff there is available.
